The 2nd ANZAC Medical Society is a group of doctors, incorporating General Practitioners and Specialists, including Physicians and Surgeons, all of whom have interest in or experience of military medicine. The fields of study include the history of Doctors in War and the influence that military medicine has had on today's civilian practice. They have joined together to resurrect the first ANZAC Medical Society, which was initially formed on the shores of Anzac Cove in 1915, ending with the dispersal of its surviving members in 1918. Having attended the 75th Anniversary of Gallipoli, the Society has since held Meetings in 1992 with a visit to Beersheba to participate in the Commemorative Service for the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba They then visited Paris on 11th November, 1993 to hold a Meeting and to participate in the commemoration Service of the 75th. Anniversary of the Signing of the Armistice. Following this, they toured the Western Front Battlefields. In 1995 the Society visited Greece and Malta and participated in joint medical meetings with Greek and Maltese medical members of the Greek and Maltese armed forces. They then toured the battlefields of Crete and laid commemorative wreaths on the Australian War Memorials in the cemeteries
1. To commemorate the humane contribution of the Australasian medical profession in past wars.
2. To draw from the worldwide experience of colleagues in the field of military medicine, and to relate and adapt this experience to the practice of civil medicine.
3. To assist the victims of war, through such agencies as Red Cross, Red Crescent, Amnesty International, etc.
