Thursday 22. This morning a part of the camp that we had left came up with us and outhers had to stop because of sickness. Our moove was slow for it took all the able [spain?] hands from to 3/4 of the time to fix the road so that we could possabley git along. It took us till fore oclock P.M. to fix the road and go about four miles. We had to pas through a canion that was full of timber, mostly maple of a small groath and the mountains came almost togeather at the bottom. But when we got through it seemed like bursting from the confines of a prison. We came in it ful view of the S. E. part of the great Salt Lake that we had ben so long looking for. It was about 30 miles off, A valley of about 20 eight miles wide lay before us the most of it covered with good gras and various outher vegatables, but timer was hardey to be seen only up in the mountains we could see some. We soon camped and wated for Br Pratt and outhers who had gon on in the morning to explore the countrey in the vicinity of our enterance who when they returned we heard that they found but little timber onley what was in the mountains
Friday 23. We went a short distance to a small groav and camped. We found the soil to be good and the air [hung?] and that we ware out of the reach of our enemies and that the countrey was well weathered with good watter ad that god had blessed us on our Journey verrey mutch. none of us had died and those that had been sick was mostley about well--
According to our masure we ware 114 miles from Ft Bridger and from Ft John 512 and about 1040 miles from Wint[er] quarters

July 28 This day I am fifty years old. I have seen many harde times in my day, yet I have ben graetley blest of the Lord, for I have heared and my hart has ben brought to believe the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which thing has brought me to this place where I trust that we can worship in peace &;establish his Kingdom---
In my past life I have had maney weaknesses and foibles, and for all my inperfections I ask My Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus to forgive me and to lngthen out my dayes for maney years and enable me to spend them all in his sirvice that I may receive every blessing that is my privelege to enjoy. And I ask him to b[l]ess all my connection and my family with full salvation boath temperal and spiritual and to the Presideancey of his Church as they stand in nead togeather with the outher [?] and all Isreal avery where and hasten the time that Isreal shal be geathered home and the Loamonites come to an understanding of the plan of salvation and Zion be built up no mour to be throne down, and the blood of the martered Joseph &;Hiram and the blood of all the mautered saints be avenged on the the head of this wicked generation.
