Appendix F: Format Change List

This document notes the changes contained in the first update to the 1994 edition of the USMARC Format for Bibliographic Data. Update No. 1 (March 1995) includes two groups of changes. The first group includes changes to the Leader, fields 001 to 008, and subfield $7 in the Linking Entry fields (76X-78X) resulting primarily from Format Integration. The second group of changes are those that resulted from proposals which were considered by the ALA ALCTS/LITA RASD Machine-Readable Bibliographic Information Committee (MARBI) at its meetings in June 1994 and February 1995.

Format Integration changes involving the validation of currently defined USMARC data elements or codes for additional categories of material are not listed here. They are documented in Format Integration and Its Effect on the USMARC Bibliographic Format (Washington: Cataloging Distribution Service, Library of Congress, 1995).

In content designator name changes, deleted words are enclosed in square brackets [], while added words are enclosed in angle brackets <>. Changes to the wording of data element descriptions, formulation of examples, and correction of typographical errors are not noted in this document.
