· Yankee Book Peddler, Inc. and Global On-line Bibliographic Information DESCRIPTION: The Global On-line Bibliographic Information (GOBI) allows Lee Librarians to search the 1.8 million-plus titles in Yankee Book Peddler (YBP) Inc.'s database. Subject librarians can search the library's transaction history with YBP pertaining to all books shipped; all books shipped on firm order; all books shipped on approval; all books shipped on continuations; and series titles on standing order. Librarians are therefore able to track orders and shipments coming from YBP, and answer questions such as: is a given title coming on the library's approval plan? or has it been firm ordered? Is a given title available in YBP's database? This is a helpful feature for subject librarians and bibliographers who have responsibility for ordering titles and/or monitoring the collecting plans for their subject area. The database is searchable not only by the usual title, author, ISBN, and publisher, but also by fund code. Links for each item pulled up by the search include "title summary" for an annotation; "local history," which indicates the library plan under which the item was received, the date, invoice number and PO number; and "approval history." The latter provides a list of YBP-serviced institutions that have ordered any given title. This allows subject librarians/bibliographers to compare their library's collecting to that of other institutions.
