PROCESSING BOOKS WITH ACCOMPANYING MATERIALS
(Diskettes, CD-ROMS, and Sound Discs)

Catalog monograph bibliographic information as usual.
  1. 300 field examples:
    • ix, 359 p. :|bill. ;|c24 cm. +|e1 computer disk (3 ½ in.)
• vii, 974 p. :|bill. ;|c25 cm. +|e1 computer optical disc (4 3/4 in.)
• iii, 236 p. ;|c26 cm. +|e1 sound disc (4 3/4 in.)
 

2. Leave in any 5xx notes about computer requirements, etc.
3. LC will often include fixed fields for computer file; see MARC handbook.
4. Unless specified otherwise, monograph type is BOOK, location is LEE-LIB.
5. If a volume set, include marc holdings as usual.

  6. Barcode book as usual, adding a red-inked stamp near the barcode (Accompanying Materials Available At The Circulation Desk)

 

Remove the diskette, CD-ROM, or sound disc from the book.
  1. Cut envelope originally attaching item into book so it cannot be used to secure item inside book.
2. Be sure book is stamped with red stamp (Accompanying Materials Available At The Circulation Desk)
3. If diskette...
   

1. Use the Create Item command to Add a Call Number to monograph call number already in record.

      • Add a space and Diskette to end of existing call number.
• Item type is CIRC-MEDIA, location is CIRC-MEDIA.
    5. Place barcode along upper edge of the back of the diskette.
6. Label disk on front, top-left corner, omitting "Diskette" from call number.
7. Send to Circulation.
  4. If CD-ROM or sound disc...
    1. With a Sharpie fine point pen, write BYU and HBLL in around center hole on top side of disc.
2. With same pen, write the call number along an outside edge of disc.
3. Put disc into a jewel CD case.
      • If disc comes with a sleeve, with information about the disc, try to include it in the jewel case.
• Some trimming of sleeves is usually necessary to fit it appropriately inside jewel case.
    4. Use the Create Item command to Add a Call Number to monograph call number already in record.

Add a space and CD-ROM to end of existing call number.

Item type is CIRC-MEDIA, location is CIRC-MEDIA.

With hinged edge at bottom, place barcode along top-right edge of case.
    1. Place call number label in top-left corner, omitting "CD-ROM" from call number.
2. Send to Circulation.

 

If more than one diskette, CD-ROM, or sound disc, created marc holding for CIRC-MEDIA location.

    1. For example, 2 diskettes, 3 CD-ROMs, or 2 sound discs.
2. Add to end of call number (after Diskette or CD-ROM), 1of2, 2of2, etc. (include this on call number label and on written call number on CD-ROMs or sound discs).
