Introduction
This document will explain and demonstrate the different functions of theReserve Request System.
Location & Loggin-in
Go to the Harold B. Lee Library homepage. On the left side of the page select Services & Info. In the Electronic Course Reserve box, select the available electronically link then Reserve Request System. Type in your Net ID and password. Be sure to select the institution where you teach. Click the Login button. You are now logged in. From here you can add a book, specific article, or book chapter. You can also add a T.A. to your contacts list and give them permission to make reserve requests for you.
Add a Book
To add a book request you first want to select Add Book from the top. You will need to fill in all boxes marked with a red asterisk. Click the drop-down list next to Course. This will bring up a list of courses and the terms they’re offered. Select the term and course for which you wish to make your reserve request. All other boxes are optional but feel free to fill those in also if you'd like. You may add any special instructions in the box provided. Select Submit Request and you’re done!
Add Article/Chapter
Now to add a specific Article or Chapter from a book you need to select Add Article/Chapter from the top menu. Next to Source Type select Journal if you want to add an article or if you want to add a chapter from a book, select Book. We’ll first go over the specifics of adding an article so we’ll select Journal as the source type. Again, all boxes marked with red asterisk needs to be filled in. If you have an active Blackboard page, a link can be made so your students can access this material from Electronic Reserve. Select Yes. Select the term and course for which you wish to make your reserve request. Select Submit Request to complete the process. Now we’ll add a specific chapter from a book. Select Book as Source Type. Fill in the boxes. Click Submit Request.
Submitted items (article or chapter) are analyzed to determine if they qualify as a legal fair use exemption. If copyright permission is needed after the fair use analysis is complete, the request is sent to BYU’s Copyright Licensing Office. Presently, BYU’s Copyright Licensing Office is funded to cover reasonable licensing fees that may arise. If you have any copyright questions, please call 801.422.9339.
Renew Previous Request
This effective feature can speed up the process of reserving material. First make sure you’re on the Reserve Request homepage. If you have navigated to another part of Reserve Request selecting My Courses from the top menu will bring you back to the homepage. From here you’ll see a list of all your courses. If you’ve ever placed material on reserve in the past for any of these courses you can easily renew a request for that same material for any course you teach. Please be aware of submission deadlines. Deadlines occur one month prior to the beginning of a new semester or term. This insures your materials will be available by the 1st day of instruction. First select the course from which you would like to renew materials. A page will open showing a list of the different materials you have had on reserve in the past for that specific course. Select the boxes next to the materials you would like to renew. Select the term and course for which you wish to make your reserve request. Select Submit Request.
Add a T.A.
To allow a T.A. permission to make requests for you, you will first need to select Contacts from the top menu. You will need to add a T.A. to your Contacts List so select the New Contact button. Fill in all boxes marked with a red asterisk. However if you want to give your T.A. permission to make reserve requests in your behalf then you will need to also fill in the Net ID box. Click Add Contact. Your T.A. has now been added to your contacts. Now click New Course Assignment. You will see a list of all your current courses. Select the course you would like to assign a T.A. to. Now click the drop-down list next to Contacts and select the T.A. you would like to assign to that course. Select the box below Contact to give that T.A. permission to make requests. Click Submit. You can change the permission of a contact from this page also by clicking the desired option underneath the Has Access column and then clicking Update Course Access. If you want to remove a T.A. from a course you can do so by clicking the red X underneath the Delete column and then pressing OK.
