Conference Overview

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections is pleased to present the A. Dean Larsen Book Collecting Conference, a two-day affair for collectors, library friends, and bibliophiles. After a successful debut last year as a one-day conference, we have expanded the conference into a two-day program.

Attendees at this year’s conference will criss-cross between Western and Eastern print traditions, explore publications of the Medieval world and the last century. Participants will inspect (and in some cases, handle) fine press of the American West, richly-illustrated literature of Victorian England, century-old handmade books, and scrolls of Imperial Japan. Attendees will also have the opportunity to see illuminated manuscripts fashioned by monastic foundations and ubiquitous newspapers of the early Mormon Church. This year’s conference also includes:

  • A printing workshop by Stephen Pratt of Pratt Press Works
  • A paper-making workshop by Rob Buchert
  • An evening reception at the Crandall Historical Printing Museum, featuring replicas of the Grandin, Franklin, and Gutenberg presses.
  • Various seminars prepared by leading library scholars, researchers, and staff.

We have recently renamed our conference after A. Dean Larsen, of the early founders of Special Collections. To read more about the conference's namesake, click here.
