Welcome to BYU’s Library Research Skills Tutorial. This tutorial will teach you how to do basic university-level research at a large research library.
This tutorial will help you:
- Learn the basics of doing research for a research paper or other research project.
- Become acquainted with BYU’s Harold B. Lee Library.
- Discover how the library can help you succeed academically.
This tutorial is composed of five learning modules and a post-test.
- You must achieve a passing score on the post-test to fulfill part of the requirements for the First-Year Writing courses.
- A passing score on the post-test also is required to fulfill the library tutorial requirement of the University Core for those of you who have received Advanced Placement credit in English.
- There is a test-out option for the tutorial: you may skip the learning modules and go directly to the post-test if you believe that you already possess strong research knowledge and skills.
- If you achieve a passing score on the post-test, you are done!
- If you don’t pass the post-test on the first try, you will only be required to retest on those modules that you don’t pass.
- You can review the learning modules and take the post-test as many times as you want.
The tutorial will continue to be available for your future reference. You can use it as a refresher when you need to do more research, and you won’t be required to repeat the post-test once you’ve passed it.
If you have comments or questions about this tutorial or the post-test, please contact the Library Instruction & Information Literacy office in the Lee Library. You can call us at 801-422-8163 or send an email to liil_secretary@byu.edu.
Now, onward!
