Catalog Cards  | BYU Student Exhibition

August 24 - October 30, 2012
Gallery on Five, level 5

Catalog cards were used before computers by libraries to index their collections. Each card was individually type-written and carefully organized into drawers for a library user to locate materials. The cards in this exhibit were all used in the Harold B. Lee Library. The purpose of this exhibit is to preserve their fascinating beauty. They are fossils, remnants of a past time.

Mexico Then & Now
Photos from Mexico's Casasola Archive & Community Exhibit
Presented by Artes de México en Utah
www.artesdemexicoenutah.org
Curator, Edgar Gomez, BYU '02

September 7 - October 31, 2012
North Gallery, level 2

This two-part exhibition is centered on the original negatives of the legendary photographs of Agustín Victor Casasola. From September 7th through October 4th, 2012, Artes de México en Utah, in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in Salt Lake City, will provide Utah with a unique snapshot of Mexico’s most defining years. This exciting photographic exhibition showcases the changes Mexico underwent shortly before and after the Revolution of 1910—a fundamental event that defined Mexico’s national identity.

Mexico Then & Now will also allow Utahns to help curate the exhibit by submitting their own photographs of visions and perceptions that reflect “their Mexico.”  A public ribbon cutting and free opening reception will take place in the atrium of the Salt Lake City Library on Friday, September 7 at 5:30 PM.  The images will be centered at the Salt Lake City Main Library with additional portions at the University of Utah Kingsbury Hall and Marriott Library, Brigham Young University Library, The State Fairpark, and Mestizo Institute of Culture & Art.
